Windows Vista Asks for Administrative Permissions When Running an Executable From LabWindows/CVI or LabVIEWPrimary Software: LabWindows/CVI Development Systems>>Base PackagePrimary Software Version: 2.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: Why does the application I built in LabWindows/CVI or LabVIEW ask for administrative privileges on Windows Vista but not Windows XP/2000? Solution: Using the keywords word "update", "setup", or "install" in a built executables filename or file resources will automatically trigger Windows Vista to ask for administrative privileges. To resolve this problem, remove any instance of "update", "setup", and "install" from the executable's filename and file resources (resources such as String Table and Version). This is also required for some LabWindows/CVI shipping examples as well. Another solution to alleviate the administrative prompts in Vista would be to set the program to always run with administrative priviledges. To do this follow the steps below.
Could not run executable. Examples that use the "update", "setup", and "install" keywords will also require administrative privileges to run properly.Related Links: External Link: Windows Vista Application Development Requirements for User Account Control Compatability Getting Ready For Windows Vista KnowledgeBase 3HUD6PUW: Configuring LabVIEW, LabVIEW DSC and Lookout to Work With the Windows Firewall Developer Zone Tutorial: A Closer Look at Windows Vista, Part I: Security Changes Developer Zone Tutorial: Five Things You Should Know about Microsoft Windows Vista Attachments:
