How Can I Use Keyboard Shortcuts in Ultiboard to Dynamically Swap Layers?
Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Ultiboard
Primary Software Version: 8.3.7
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: Using Ultiboard to place traces can sometimes be a slow process, especially if you do not know the shortcuts to improve the process.
Here is the typical process for placing a via and swapping to the other layer to carry on the trace:
- Left click to position the end of the track on top side.
- Press esc key to end the track place mode.
- Move up to Menu select Place>>Via
- Left click on the end of the track, then click OK to accept the via settings.
- Press escape key again to exit from “place via” mode.
- In Design toolbox, Layers Tab, double click bottom layer to make it active.
- At top menu click place line tool
- Return to the via, left click on it. You continue routing.
Solution: In order to streamline this process, you can enable shortcut keys for each layer.
The Process to do this is as follows:
- Select Options >> Customer User Interface.
- Select the Keyboard tab.
- In the category menu select Layers.
- Assign the shortcut keys of your choice to each of the Active Favorite Layers that you are planning to use.
Now you need to assign which layers are in the favorite list. To do this:
- Select Options >> PCB Properties
- Select the tab Favorite Layers
- Assign the appropriate layers.
- From this point onwards you will be able to swap between layers by simply pressing the shortcut key you assigned.
When you are wiring a trace and want to place a via to another layer, simply press the shortcut key for the layer you desire and a via is automatically placed and the tracing continues on your new layer.
