Can I Use the NI Motion Assistant with LabVIEW 8.0?

Problem: I would like to generate code for LabVIEW 8.0 using the NI Motion Assistant version 1.3. When I install the NI Motion Assistant, there seems to be support for LabVIEW 7.x. Can I uses the Motion Assistant with LabVIEW 8.0?

Solution: The NI Motion Assistant version 1.3 was designed for LabVIEW 7.x. With a few modifications, we can use the motion Assistant with LabVIEW 8.0. First, select the case that best represents your current situation. After you have completed these steps, proceed to the Final Steps section.

Case 1: I already have LabVIEW 8.0 and the NI Motion Assistant version 1.3 installed.
In order to do this workaround, Motion Assistant support for LabVIEW 7.1 must be installed. To install LabVIEW 7.1 support,
  1. Open the Control Panel (On Windows XP go to Start->Control Panel)
  2. Open Add or Remove Programs
  3. Select National Instruments Software and click the Change button
  4. A new window will appear. Select NI Motion Assistan 1.3 and click Modify
  5. When the next window opens, click on LabVIEW 7.1. Select to Install this feature to local hard drive.
Case 2: I already have LabVIEW 8.0 installed, but have not installed the NI Motion Assistant.
Install the NI Motion Assistant version 1.3. When given the option for typical or custom installation, choose custom installation. On the next screen, click on LabVIEW 7.1 and select to Install this feature to local hard drive. Now you can complete the installation.

Case 3: I already have the NI Motion Assistant Installed, but have not installed LabVIEW 8.0.
You will need to install LabVIEW 8.0. After you do this, install LabVIEW 7.1 support for the Motion Assistant. To do this,
  1. Open the Control Panel (On Windows XP go to Start->Control Panel)
  2. Open Add or Remove Programs
  3. Select National Instruments Software and click the Change button
  4. A new window will appear. Select NI Motion Assistan 1.3 and click Modify
  5. When the next window opens, click on LabVIEW 7.1. Select to Install this feature to local hard drive.
Case 4: I do not have LabVIEW 8.0 or the NI Motion Assistant installed.
Install the NI Motion Assistant version 1.3. When given the option for typical or custom installation, choose custom installation. On the next screen, click on LabVIEW 7.1 and select to Install this feature to local hard drive. After you can complete the installation of Motion Assistant, install LabVIEW 8.0.
Final Steps
  1. Copy files from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\Motion\ and paste them in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\Motion\
  2. Copy files from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\MotionAssistant\ and paste them in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\MotionAssistant\
