Where Do I Find the Serial Number of My National Instruments Product?

Problem:
I need to find the serial number of my National Instruments hardware or software product. Where can I find it?

Solution:
Finding your serial number is dependent upon the type of license agreement and equipment you initially enabled at purchase.  The following shows instructions for:

• Software Standard Service Program Customers
• Software Volume License Program Customers
• Hardware Customers

Software Standard Service Program Customers

From within your National Instruments Software:

1. Launch the National Instruments Software you wish to identify.
2. When the application opens, locate the Help menu at the top of the screen.
3. Click: Help»About
4. The pop-up box that appears will display the following software application details;
   1. Name
   2. Version
   3. Serial Number
5. If you do not see your Serial Number, please see the section later in this document for Software Volume License Program Customers.

From NI License Manager:

1. Launch the NI License Manager from the Start menu.
2. Within the NI License Manager, navigate to the NI software of interest under Local Licenses. For Instance, Local Licenses»LabVIEW 2016»Development System»Professional Development System.
3. If the is software activated, the box next to it will be green and the serial number will be located in the Serial Number field as seen in Figure 1.

From your Certificate of Ownership:

Your serial number is located on the Certificate of Ownership included in your software kit. If your software kit does not include a Certificate of Ownership, you can find your serial number on the product packing slip or on the shipping label as shown below in Figure 2.

Software Volume License Customers
Volume License Programs require an administrator.  Contact your administrator for the Serial Number.

Alternative Method:  From within National Instruments License Manager

1. Navigate to the National Instruments folder on your computer.
2. Launch the NI License Manager Software.
3. When the application opens, click on the Server Name
4. The administrator contact information will be listed on the right side of the window.  See Figure 3 below.

Hardware Customers

• National Instruments hardware serial numbers typically consist of six (6) alphanumeric values.
• National Instruments hardware serial numbers are located on a label adhered directly on the hardware itself.
• If your hardware was shipped in an anti-static bag, the serial number will also be located on a label on that bag.

For reference, Figure 4 below illustrates where you would locate the serial number for a PCI Board, a PXI Controller, a PXI Chassis and a USB device.
