Can I Use a Motion Cable With a M-Series DAQ Card?Hardware: Motion Control
Problem: I have a M-Series DAQ card and I want to connect it to a device that has a VHDCI connector. All the available DAQ cables have the VHDCI connector on only one end. But there is a Motion cable (SH68-C68-S) that has a VHDCI connector on both ends. Can I use the Motion Cable with my M-Series card? Solution: Although the connector on the ends of the SH68-C68-S will fit on a M-Series card, it is not recommended to be used with it. Usually the SHC68-68-EPM is recommended for our DAQ card and the SH68-C68-S is recommended for our Motion card. The Motion cable cannot be used with a DAQ card because the cable is not shielded, which is highly recommended when dealing with analog signals.
In the SHC68-68-EMP cable, the analog wires are individually shielded to reduce noise. The figure shows how the wires meant for the DAQ card are separated into 3 bundles. Notice that the analog wires are separated from the other wires with additional shielding and an extra drain wire. In the SH68-C68-S cable for the Motion card, the wires are in twisted pairs with no additional shielding. ![]() The following are some other differences between the two cables:
