Reassigning Legacy Board Resources in Windows 2000
Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)
Problem: How do I change the resource settings of a Legacy Device's input/output range, interrupt, and DMA in Windows 2000?
Solution:
- Go to Start » Settings » Control Panel » System. Select the Hardware tab at the top of the window, and then click the Device Manager button. You will see a window like the one shown below. Double-click on "Data Acquisition Devices". You should see your device listed here.
In the picture shown above, you will note that the AT-AO-10 device appears twice. This is normal -- Windows often displays two "copies" of ISA devices which employ multiple DMA channels (Direct Memory Access).
- Right-click on the device and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu, or simply click the device once to highlight it and then click the Properties button.
- Select the Resources tab. You will see a window like the following:
Note that the "Conflicting device list" says there are "No conflicts" for the selected resource (in this case, Direct Memory Access).
- Follow the instructions below if your device is in conflict:
- Uncheck the box for "Use Automatic Settings." Now you will be able to select a different "Basic Configuration" setting from the drop down menu.
- If you still see a conflict with another device, you will have to change the resource settings (Input/Output range, Interrupt, DMA) manually. Refer to the link below for instructions on how to check for free resources in your computer. Note the resources that are available.
- To change the resources manually, click on each resource. For instance, click on "Interrupt" to select it, then click on "Change Settings" to make the change.
- This will allow you to change the resource settings. Assign a resource setting that is available in your computer.
- After assigning the resources manually, click "OK" to quit out of the window. Close all other applications.
