Problem: New Features in DIAdem Version 9.0 and Upgrading from DIAdem Version 8.1 Solution: This is a list of the new features in DIAdem Version 9.0 and how to use them, as well as descriptions of any changes you have to make. Also refer to the DIAdem 9.0 Release Notes, and to the attached document on modifying the VIEW commands. Name Conventions In DIAdem Version 9 and later versions, DIAdem devices are called panels. DIAdem CALC is now DIAdem ANALYSIS. DIAdem GRAPH is now DIAdem REPORT. DIAdem AUTO is now DIAdem SCRIPT. DIAdem DATA - DIAdem NAVIGATOR DIAdem Version 9 no longer includes the DIAdem DATA panel. It has been replaced by DIAdem NAVIGATOR, for loading and saving data sets from various sources such as data files and databases. You can load and save your data using drag-and-drop or using dialog boxes. DIAdem DATA - DIAdem Data Portal The new Data Portal displays the loaded channels. Use the Data Portal in the DIAdem panels to drag and drop data channels into files, layouts, or calculations. The Data Portal has the channel list view used in DIAdem DATA, as well as a new structure view. In the structure view you manage your channels in groups. In the properties window you view and edit the freely definable properties of your data. You can now generate text channels for displaying text in tables, for example. DIAdem 9.0 adds data sets from external files and databases to the data in the Data Portal. If you load additional data sets, DIAdem automatically generates a new channel group in the Data Portal, and the group has the same name as the loaded set. In DIAdem Version 8.1 DIAdem overwrites existing data when it loads new data. For compatibility, the DataLoad command still overwrites existing data. The new command DataFileImport generates a new group in the Data Portal, with the same name as the file, and adds the loaded data. We have adapted the existing GPI loading filters to the new loading method. You can insert the DataDelAll command before the loading procedure to delete the data in the Data Portal. DIAdem DATA - DIAdem VIEW DIAdem VIEW has been completely redeveloped. In addition to the DIAdem 8.1 VIEW functions, DIAdem Version 9 enables you to display and edit you data in tables. You can print channel tables in DIAdem VIEW, the same way you did in DIAdem DATA. The WndName Variable The new DIAdem Version 9.0 panel names, ANALYSIS, REPORT, and SCRIPT, replace the enumeration terms CALC, GRAPH, and AUTO in the WndName variable. Replace the DATA enumeration term with either VIEW or NAVIGATOR, depending on the task performed. Register File Data handling has been reorganized in DIAdem 9.0, and you cannot yet register files to access read-only channels. DIAdem Data Portal: Script Commands Select DIAdem Help»New Features»New Commands and Variables in the DIAdem online help for a list of the new Data Portal commands and variables. DIAdem DATA: Script Commands In Version 9.0 and later, DIAdem ignores the commands and variables for configuring the DIAdem DATA interface. Data Set Properties In DIAdem 8.1 and earlier versions, you can only enter specific data set properties. In the DIAdem 9.0 Data Portal, you can define your own properties in addition to the basic properties. Your properties are saved with the data set. Use the shortcut menu in DIAdem 9.0 to view and edit the 100 data set comments from DIAdem 8.1. Data Portal: Unique Channel Names DIAdem 9.0 gives each channel in a group a different name. When DIAdem loads external data, or data from earlier DIAdem versions, it appends numbers to the original name. Use the ChnNamingMode variable to specify this behavior in scripts. To disable this behavior, select Settings»Desktop parameters»General»Unique channel names for a group. Data Portal: Deleting Channels - Free Channel In DIAdem Version 8.1 and earlier versions, several channel properties indicate to DIAdem whether a channel is free or in use. In Version 9.0 and later, DIAdem sets one single channel property to this function, when channels are free or used. You must use the delete command ChnDelete to delete a channel and then to identify a channel as free. Changing the DIAdem Data Format DIAdem saves numeric and text data in a new TDM format. DIAdem saves the header information, such as data set properties, channel groups, and freely-definable properties, in the TDM file. DIAdem saves the binary data in the related TDX file. DIAdem 9.0 can read and save data in DIAdem DAT format. When data is saved in DAT format, information specific to DIAdem 9, like channel groups, is lost. Name-Oriented Mode In the DIAdem REPORT and DIAdem VIEW panels, DIAdem works name-oriented instead of number-oriented when it accesses channels. Select Settings»Layout parameters in both panels to change the mode. When you change the order of the channels in the Data Portal, and you use several channels in an operation, for example in DIAdem ANALYSIS, reset the channel numbers in the shortcut menu New channel numbers in the Data Portal root. Report Wizard In DIAdem 9.0 and later versions, you start the Report Wizard with a new button in the DIAdem VIEW and DIAdem REPORT toolbars. DIAdem VIEW You can create and print multipage layouts. DIAdem saves VIEW layouts in a new format with the filename extension TDV. To migrate DIAdem 8.1 VIEW layouts to DIAdem 9.0, use the script ImportLVD.vbs in the subfolder \Libr\Aut. DIAdem VIEW: Script Commands In the new DIAdem VIEW panel, the script command structure is object-oriented. The new script commands are in the DIAdem online help Contents tab, under Functions, Commands and Variables»DIAdem VIEW: Objects, Methods, Properties DIAdem ANALYSIS DIAdem ANALYSIS offers new functions for evaluating data from vehicle safety tests: Acceleration Severity Index (ASI), Theoretical Head Impact Velocity (THIV), Post-impact Head Deceleration (PHD), Occupant Ridedown Acceleration (ORA), and Occupant Impact Velocity (OIV). DIAdem REPORT: Storage Format DIAdem Version 9.0 can load layouts from earlier DIAdem versions with the filename extension LPD. DIAdem 9 provides new features in the DIAdem REPORT panel, so you can only save the layouts in the new format with the filename extension TDR. DIAdem REPORT: Clipping Graphic Objects DIAdem Version 9.0 replaces the clipping of graphic objects in DIAdem GRAPH by freely selectable background colors for the graphic objects. DIAdem only changes the clipping behavior for layouts from earlier DIAdem versions if you insert new objects. DIAdem REPORT: New File with Template In DIAdem REPORT you can create a new layout from an existing template. Select your template by clicking Settings»Desktop parameters»Panel specific. The default is an empty template. DIAdem SCRIPT: Dialog Editor The dialog editor - previously called the SUD editor - provides extensive features for designing dialog boxes. DIAdem still runs scripts with user dialog boxes from earlier versions. The COD dialog editor is no longer included in the DIAdem user interface. It is now a separate program called DlgEdit.exe, located in the DIAdem folder. You only use the COD dialog editor for existing COD dialogs. To create new dialog boxes, use the dialog templates or the Dialog Wizard in the top DIAdem SCRIPT function bar. DIAdem SCRIPT: New Text File Functions Use the new functions for reading, editing, and writing text files to edit unicode formats. Select DIAdem Help»New Features»New Commands and Variables in the DIAdem online help for a list of the new functions. Running DIAdem 8.1 and DIAdem 9.0 Together You can run DIAdem 8.1 and DIAdem 9.0 together. Do not use the Report Wizard and the Data Navigator in DIAdem 8.1, because this can cause problems in the registration file. Installing Multiple Versions of DIAdem 9.0 on One Computer We use Microsoft-Installer technology to install DIAdem Version 9.0. You can only install one copy of a particular version. You cannot yet install different language versions at the same time. Related Links: Attachments:
