FieldPoint Installer does not Install IRDA for Real-Time (RT) on my Host Computer

Problem:
When I try to install FieldPoint 5.01, I get a message about incompatibility with existing software for the NI-IRDA and NI-Serial Drivers (see Figure 1 below). Why won't NI-IRDA install?

Solution:
This is a known issue with host computers that already have an installation of the NI-Serial driver. You can verify this problem by checking your version of NI-Serial in the Read Me file. Select Start Programs » National Instruments » NI-Serial » Readme. If you have version 3.2 or greater, the FieldPoint installer run on your host computer will have the display shown below.

There are two ways to put the host computer in a state where NI-IRDA and NI-Serial can install correctly.
  1. Uninstall the version of NI-Serial currently installed on the system.
  2. Install the NI-Serial for RT component using the NI-Serial installer. The version for the NI-Serial for RT installer should be the same as the NI-Serial currently on the host computer.
