Problem: I installed the August 2007 Driver CD and the LabVIEW Real-Time Software Wizard has changed. I now have the option to install recommended software sets. What are they, and why are some of them disabled? How do I install a set of software that includes software that is not in one of the available recommended software sets? Solution: What is a recommended software set? A recommended software set is a set of National Instruments software components that work together when installed on your hardware. Recommended software sets have been created for CompactRIO, FieldPoint, and Compact FieldPoint. These sets are available for LabVIEW 7.1.1, LabVIEW 8.0, LabVIEW 8.2.1, and LabVIEW 8.5. The recommended software sets have been tested extensively by National Instruments for compatibility between the software components. What is the difference between the regular and minimal software sets? The regular software set is the software needed to run typical applications, including all hardware examples. The minimal software set includes only support for LabVIEW Real-Time and driver support for the hardware. The minimal software set enables you to perform local I/O, but may not be sufficient for all applications. Why are some of the recommended software sets grayed out? If a recommended software set is disabled or grayed out, you do not have all of the software components installed on the host computer. How do I install a set of software that differs from the available recommended software sets? NI does not recommend mixing and matching software components. If you are sure that is what you want to do, choose the "Custom software installation" option. Click the Next button. A dialog box will appear asking whether you are sure you want to manually install software. Click the Yes button. Follow the instructions on the dialog that appears to install a custom software set.
