Windows 3.1 and DOS Support for the PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, and PXI-GPIB

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-GPIB+, GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-GPIB, GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PXI-GPIB

Problem:
Are the PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, and PXI-GPIB supported under Windows 3.1 or DOS?

Solution:
The PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, and PXI-GPIB boards are not supported under Windows 3.x or DOS. To run Windows 3.x or DOS GPIB applications, you have several options:
  • Change platforms to Windows NT. The NI-488.2 driver for Windows fully supports the PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, and PXI-GPIB in Windows NT. Additionally, this driver fully supports existing DOS and Windows 3.x GPIB applications.
  • Change platforms to Windows 98/95/Me or Windows 2000/XP. The NI-488.2 driver for Windows supports the PCI-GPIB, PXI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+. Windows 95 only supports the controller portion of the PCI-GPIB+, and does not support the analyzer functionality. Additionally, this driver fully supports existing DOS and Windows 3.x GPIB applications.
  • Change GPIB controllers to one supported by an NI-488.2 Windows 3.x driver. For a listing of these controllers, see the "Current GPIB Versions" page.
  • As a last option, if you must use the PCI-GPIB, PCI-GPIB+, or PXI-GPIB under Windows 3.x, you can use the NI-488DDK to create your own driver. Using the PCI-GPIB+ in this manner is somewhat unusual since this software kit does not contain code for using the analyzer portion of this board. The NI-488DDK contains a subset of the NI-488.2 driver software, and to use it, you should be quite familiar with DOS, Windows 3.1, PCI or CompactPCI, and programming in C.
