License Exception When Using Measurement Studio 7.x .NET Libraries With Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

Problem:
I am trying to use the Measurement Studio 7.x .NET libraries with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I get license exceptions when trying to use certain libraries. Can I use the Measurement Studio 7.x .NET libraries with Visual Studio 2005?

Solution:
The Measurement Studio 7.x .NET libraries were released before Visual Studio 2005 was available. The Measurement Studio 7.x .NET class libraries were created and tested for the .NET Framework 1.1 and Visual Studio 2003 only. There are some issues with trying to use them with Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0, due to the fact that Microsoft has made significant changes in the newer version of the .NET Framework. Some of these issues include:
  • The Auto Format design-time feature does not work.
  • There are no Measurement Studio Integration tools (menus, project wizards, etc.) available for Visual Studio 2005.
  • License exceptions are generated when using the Measurement Studio .NET libraries in Visual Studio 2005.
A patch is available that fixes the specific issue with the license exceptions. You can download the patch from the Related Links section of this article. If you are using the Measurement Studio 7.0 evaluation version, please refer to the Related Links section for information about the changes in licensing behavior that occur after installing the patch.

Note: National Instruments does not fully support using the Measurement Studio 7.x .NET class libraries with Visual Studio 2005. Measurement Studio 8.0 supports using the .NET controls and libraries with Visual Studio 2005.
