Why Can't I Boot My Real-Time Controller From a USB Key? Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time ModulePrimary Software Version: 8.5.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers
Problem: I am trying to boot my desktop PC or PXI controller from a real-time (RT) USB utility drive that I created in Measurement and Automation Explorer. I set the controller to boot from USB by changing the boot order in the BIOS, but it is still not working. Why is my controller not detecting the drive? Solution: Some BIOSes have an option to treat an external storage device as either a hard-drive or a floppy. In many cases, the default setting is for automatic detection. With this setting, any USB key that is below a certain size may be treated as a floppy instead of a hard drive. In order to avoid this behavior, change the setting to treat all external storage devices as hard drives. After making this change your USB device should be recognized by your controller.
