MXI-3 and MXI-4 Blue Screen Errors on Windows XP Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8331, PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8330
Problem: If I connect a PC with Windows XP to a PXI chassis with only a MXI-3 or MXI-4 card in it and no devices, Windows XP gives me the "Blue Screen of Death" on boot up. How do I prevent this? Solution: Note: Microsoft has resolved this problem in Service Pack 1 for Windows XP. Please upgrade to the most current service pack to prevent this issue. Prior to service pack 1, Windows XP expected there to be devices behind the MXI-3 or MXI-4 interface when you boot your system. If you did not have another device in the chassis besides the PXI-MXI-3 or MXI-4 interface card, Windows XP would report an error and blue screen. If you cannot upgrade to the latest service pack, then make sure you have at least one device in your PXI chassis when you boot up if you are connected via MXI-3 or MXI-4 to a Windows XP computer.
