Issue Details

I want to create a PCB with six layers. How do I set this up in Ultiboard?

Solution

To setup the PCB layers in Ultiboard, select Options»PCB Design»Copper Layers.  A layer pair is a PCB material that has copper on both sides, if you entered 1 in the Layer Pairs field, you have a copper top layer and a copper bottom layer where you can route traces; this is a two-layer PCB setup.

A multi-layer board is manufactured by placing isolation in between the layer pairs then gluing them together. To setup a six-layer board, you define the layer pairs as 3 in Ultiboard.

A single layer stack-up has copper on one side and this setup is not common. If you entered 2 layer pairs and 1 top stack-up, this means you have a five-layer board.
