Hardware Counter Start Trigger for Counter SynchronizationHardware: Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PCI-6602
Problem: I am trying to trigger my counter with a digital signal or make sure that multiple counters are synchronized. Can this be done and is this possible using an E Series DAQ card? Solution: Hardware Counter Start Trigger starts all the counters simultaneously. Synchronous counting prevents incorrect counting with an external source and a gate signal. Hardware counter start triggers and synchronous counting capabilities are only offered by DAQ cards that support NI-TIO. Since the E Series cards do not support NI-TIO, counter synchronization is not possible with this series. On the contrary, M Series DAQ cards do support NI-TIO counter features, such as two-edge separation and quadrature encoding and can be used for counter synchronization. You can use the arm start trigger to synchronize multiple counters. Further, if you are using DAQmx, you can also configure a separate arm start trigger for each counter with the signal being able to come from either an internal or external source. Once the signal is received, the counter then becomes armed and is ready to start - only the start trigger allows operation to begin. This gives the user the capability to wait on two different signals, the arm start trigger and the start trigger itself.
