What Do I Do if I Receive a Memory Parity Error, Followed by a General Protection Fault?

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers, VXI/VME/MXI>>VME Controllers, VXI/VME/MXI>>VXI Controllers

Problem: What do I do if I receive a memory parity error, followed by a General Protection Fault?

Solution: Memory parity errors are the result of bad memory in your machine. This memory might be virtual memory, indicating a problem on your hard disk, or physical memory, indicating a bad SIMM. To check for problems with your hard disk, use a standard disk utility package such as Norton Utilities. To check for problems with physical RAM, physically rotate the SIMMs in your machine. Make sure that the computer is powered down before removing the SIMM, then reboot the PC after each rotation. When the bad SIMM is placed in the lowest bank of memory, the machine does not boot at all. It is a good idea to replace the bad SIMM.
