Invalid Serial Number When Activating DataFinder Server 2017

Problem:
I am trying to activate DataFinder Server 2017. When I input my serial number into the Activation Wizard, I receive an activation error saying Invalid Serial Number. How do I activate DataFinder Server 2017?

Solution:
With the upgrade to 2017, licensing for DataFinder Server has changed to allow customers greater flexibility in adding DataFinder Server Connections and Instances to their deployment. The licensing changes also support the new Data Preprocessor feature added to DataFinder Server Advanced and Professional editions, which enables automatic metadata standardization and enrichment on the server. DataFinder Server 2017 now consists of three to four separate license components:
  • DataFinder Server (Base/Advanced/Professional)
  • DataFinder Server Connections
  • DataFinder Server Instances
  • (Optional) Compute Node Instances
The first three are needed to activate and properly use DataFinder Server 2017, whereas the Compute Node enables the Data Preprocessor for the Advanced and Professional editions. The multiple serial numbers of DataFinder Server 2017 must be managed by a volume licensing server for activation. If you already have a volume license agreement (VLA) with National Instruments, you can add DataFinder Server to your existing VLA. Otherwise, DataFinder Server will create a new VLA for you that you can host using Volume License Manager.

Please include any DataFinder Server serial numbers you have and, if available, your VLA service ID in your service request ticket.
