If I have Named-User Licenses, How Do I Create a Disconnected License File in NI Volume License Manager?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.1.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have Named-User licenses, but I would like to create a disconnected license file from NI Volume License Manager. How do I create the disconnected license file?

Solution:
The easiest way to do this so that you don't have to manually re-set permissions for the Computer to disconnect is to follow the steps below:

  1. If the computer to disconnect is already listed in VLM:
Expand the Computers node, double-click the computer to disconnect.  In the Properties dialog box, on the User tab select the user to disconnect.

If the computer to disconnect is not listed in VLM yet:
Right-click the user whose permissions you would like to use, and select Copy to New Computer.... Enter in the computer name and computer ID of the computer that will be disconnected. Click OK.  Alternatively, you can right-click on the Computers node, and select Add Computer.... You can then enter in the computer name and computer ID information and click OK.

  2. Expand the Computers node, right-click on the computer that was just created, and select Disconnect....

  3. In the first dialog box, select any users who will use this machine in order for the Named-User permissions to be included in the disconnected license. Click OK.

  4. Select the expiration date for the disconnected license file, or select the checkbox for no expiration date, and then click OK.

  5. Choose the file name and location to save the file, and click OK.

Follow the steps in KnowledgeBase 33JDS71F: After I Create a Disconnected or Home License from NI Volume License Manager, How do I Use It? to see how to install a disconnected license file.

Note: The disconnected license file will not affect the existing user's permissions. The user will still be able to check out permissions from NI VLM over the network.
