Inaccurate Readings Performing Three-Wire Current-Voltage Measurements with NI-ELVIS Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>Connector Blocks>>NI ELVIS
Problem: Why do I see discontinuities or inaccurate measurements when performing a Three-Wire Current-Voltage Analysis of a transistor with NI-ELVIS? Solution: When performing a Three-Wire Current-Voltage Analysis of a transistor using NI-ELVIS hardware, you may see discontinuities or abrupt changes in the I-V plot. This is due to the fact that the current measurements are taken by measuring the voltage across a 332Ω resistor with a specified accuracy of +/-2%. For a transistor that produces a very small current, this inaccuracy can create large abrupt changes in the current measurement. To lessen the effects of the resistor inaccuracies, add an external resistor less than 100kΩ in series with the base of the transistor. This will decrease the sensitivity of the current and smooth the I-V curve. Related Links: KnowledgeBase 2YNDB1BG: How Can I Improve the NI ELVIS Current Measurement Accuracy? Attachments:
