How do I Disable a Startup Process that Prevents Lookout from Opening?

Primary Software: Lookout
Primary Software Version: 4.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:

I have configured Lookout to run a process upon startup. That process is now causing Lookout to crash or hang when it opens. I can't get into Lookout to disable the startup process, since the process causes Lookout to crash before it fully opens. How can I disable this startup process?

Solution:

Follow these steps to disable a startup process:

  1. Go to the Lookout directory (default directory is c:\Program Files\National Instruments\Lookout).
  2. Open the file lookout.ini in a text editor.
  3. Find the line that begins with Startup= and remove the process specified after the "=" character on this line. For instance, if the Startup line in lookout.ini looked like Startup=c:\some\folder\process.l4p, change the line to Startup=.
  4. After making this modification, save the lookout.ini file.
  5. Restart Lookout. Now there should be no startup processes and you should be able to edit and run processes nromally.
