LabVIEW 8.5.1 for Mac OS X Fails to Connect to Remote Front Panels

Primary Software: LabVIEW Run-Time Engine
Primary Software Version: 8.5.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I have the LabVIEW 8.5.1 Mac Run-Time installed, but when connecting to a remote panel, I see the web page but the panel does not load.

Solution:
LabVIEW 8.5.1 for Mac OS introduced a problem preventing Mac OS Web browsers from connecting to front panels. To correct this problem, you must install the updated version of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine on the machine to which you want to connect. The updated version of the Run-Time Engine is avalible through the Drivers and Updates page on ni.com and is linked in the Related Links section of this document. To distribute a LabVIEW-built application to another user, you also must distribute this updated version of the Run-Time Engine. This problem affects only Mac OS machines that have the version of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine that shipped with LabVIEW 8.5.1. If you previously downloaded the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine from ni.com, this problem does not affect you.

Determining whether this Problem Affects You

Most commonly, users affected by this problem will be able to establish a connection to the webpage containing the remote panel and will see the the contents of the page but will not be able to view the panel even after clicking "Click here to view Remote Panel". An uncommon symptom of this problem is the ability to connect to a panel, but during the loading of the panel, a search dialog is displayed looking for a VI in a temporary directory but the VI is not found.

If you are unsure about whether you are affected, complete the following steps.
  1. Select Go»Computer»Main Partition»Library»Internet Plug-Ins.
  2. Locate the LV85HelperLauncher.plugin file.
  3. <Ctrl>-click the plug-in file, or right-click the plug-in file and select Show Package Contents from the shortcut menu.
  4. Select Contents»MacOS»LV85HelperLauncher.
  5. Examine the modified date. If the modified date is January 10, 2008, this problem affects you.

Correcting this Problem

Both the LabVIEW Browser Plugin as well as the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine were updated to resolve this problem and will be updated when you install the latest version of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine through the NI website. You can download and distribute the updated LabVIEW 8.5.1 version of the Run-Time Engine for free from the Drivers and Updates pages on ni.com.

After you install the updated Run-Time Engine, complete the following steps to verify the LabVIEW browser plug-in has been updated.
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 4 from the previous section.
  2. Verify the modified date is March 27, 2008.
