Code Generation Changes from Instrument I/O Assistant 1.x to 2.0

Primary Software: Measurement Studio>>Professional Edition (Base Package)
Primary Software Version: 8.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Measurement Studio>>Visual C++ Support, Measurement Studio>>.NET Support

Problem: I am using the Instrument I/O Assistant (IIOA) to generate instrument communication code with Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 or Visual Studio 2005. After installing the National Instruments November 2005 Driver CD, when I open my existing project and regenerate the IIOA code, I am unable to build my project. How can I fix this?

Solution:
The November 2005 Driver CD includes version 2.0 of the IIOA. The Instrument I/O Assistant 2.0 and higher tasks honor the binary data types you select in the Instrument I/O Assistant task. When upgrading an Instrument I/O Assistant 1.x task to an Instrument I/O Assistant 2.0 and higher task, you might need to modify the code that calls the Instrument I/O Assistant task by changing the data types that you pass to the task. Refer to the Using an Instrumentation Task Class in a Project topic in the NI Measurement Studio Help for more information.

You can check the version of the IIOA installed on your machine.

  1. Go to the following location: \National Instruments\MAX\Assistants.

  2. Right-click the IIOA.mxw file and select Properties.

If the version of the IIOA.mxw file is 4.0 or higher, then the IIOA is at least version 2.0.

This change also occurs when you upgrade a Visual Studio 2003 project that uses the IIOA to a Visual Studio 2005 project.
