Problem: I am trying to export a clock from my Timing & Synchronization Board to be used by other devices which are not in my chassis, but my clock is not recognized by these devices. How do I successfully distribute a clock?; Solution: If you want to distribute a clock across the PXI backplane to devices in a single chassis, then run the Route Clock VI, located in the NI Example Finder » Hardware Input and Output » Timing and Synchronization » Signal-Based folder. This VI routes the clock specified by the user from the source terminal to the destination terminal. If you want to distribute a clock from one chassis to another, then the gain must be enabled on the ClkOut terminal in order for the signal to have enough amplitude to reach the destination terminal. This is done through an NI-Sync Property Node as shown below. NI-Sync ClkOut Gain Enable Property Node Setting this property node to True enables the Gain on ClkOut and allows the clock signal to have enough gain to reach its destination. An example program that performs a ClkOut Loopback Test is attached below. Related Links: KnowledgeBase 2P4DQL5P: Synchronization of the 10 MHz Reference Clock in Multiple PXI-1042 Chassis.
