Why Does My HP 83650A Display "HPIB Syntax Error" When I Use The LabVIEW Instrument Driver?

Problem: I downloaded the traditional instrument driver from National Instruments' web site (www.ni.com) for my HP 83650A Synthesized Sweeper. When I use this driver, my instrument displays the error message "HPIB Syntax Error."

Solution: This message occurs when the Synthesized Sweeper is set to Compatibility mode. In order to communicate with the sweeper, it must be set to SCPI mode. To do this, send the instrument the command "SYST:SCPI."
