Linux - Which National Intruments Products are compatable with Linux Fedora (Core 6)?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Professional Development System
Primary Software Version: 8.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-SCOPE

Problem:

I want to use National Instruments products with my Linux machine running the Linux Fedora (Core 6) Operating System. What testing has been carried out to verify what can and can’t be done under my system?

Solution: LabVIEW 8.5 or NI-Scope 2.9 for RedHat can be installed on a Fedora (Core 6) machine, however at present NI-Scope 2.9 cannot be integrated into LabVIEW 8.5 under Fedora (Core 6). NI-Scope can be can be used with some other ‘C’ development environments on Fedora (Core 6).

Note: Other NI applications may be compatible with Fedora however National Instruments have not yet tested or confirmed compatibility with any products not mentioned.

LabVIEW 8.5 for RedHat on a Fedora (Core 6) machine:

1.      Insert LabVIEW 8.5 for RedHat CD

2.      In the Terminal window type:

    su root ./INSTALL

3.      Supply the password for the root account to install LabVIEW

NI-Scope 2.9 for RedHat on a Fedora (Core 6) machine:

Note: Installing NI-Scope 2.9 in the usual way (as for LabVIEW 8.5) will result in an error saying that the kernel source version doesn’t match the current version. This error can be overcome using the following steps:

1.      Insert the NI-Scope 2.9 for RedHat CD

2.      Using Fedora’s archive manager, unpack the tar.gz file from the CD to a folder somewhere assessable.

3.      In the Terminal window type:

         su root

        Then supply password

4.     Change to the directory that you unpacked your files to:

        rpm<filename> -i <dash><dash>nodeps

    <filename>
is a file such as niscope-2.9.0-f3.i386.rpm.

Do this for each rpm file (some may already be installed with LabVIEW)

5.    Download and install the ni-kal 1.6 driver from www.ni.com using

su root ./INSTALL in the downloaded file’s directory

This will render your machine ready for the installation of NI-Scope 2.9.
