Sync Out Of Range Error on Monitor Connected to PXI Controller

Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8184

Problem:
When I turn on my PXI controller with the monitor attached, I get a Sync Out of Range Error when Windows gets through loading?

Solution:
When your PXI controller loads into Windows, after the Windows loading screen, it uses the default video settings for the resolution and frequency. If your monitor cannot handle the default settings then it will display the Sync Out of Range error on the monitor. In order to change the video settings follow the steps below:

  1. Restart the controller by powering off the chassis and powering on.
  2. Upon reboot, hold the F8 key until the Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu displays

  3. Choose the option for Safe Mode
  4. Once windows loads into safe mode the desktop background will be black and it will first display a warning message about safe mode and system restore

Click Yes to proceed to work in safe mode.
  5. Click on Start >> Run and type in msconfig
  6. When the System Configuration Utility window opens choose the BOOT.INI tab and check the /BASEVIDEO check box.

This will make windows boot with the lowest resolution and frequency settings in normal mode.
  7. Click OK and choose to restart now
  8. On restart windows will go into normal mode and will have the base video settings and the Sync Out of Range Error will not appear. From here you can right click on the desktop and choose properties to change the settings to a higher frequency and resolution that the monitor can still handle.
