Grounding of the C Terminal of the CompactRIO Power Connector to the Earth Ground Screw of the Chassis Hardware: CompactRIO>>Chassis (Backplanes)>>cRIO-9102, CompactRIO>>Chassis (Backplanes)>>cRIO-9104, CompactRIO>>Chassis (Backplanes)>>cRIO-9103, CompactRIO>>Chassis (Backplanes)>>cRIO-9101, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9002, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9004, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9052, CompactRIO>>Controllers>>cRIO-9012
Problem: I noticed that the C (common) terminal of the power connector on my CompactRIO (cRIO) controller is shorted to the grounding screw of the cRIO chassis. Is this correct? How does this affect the isolation of the cRIO chassis and modules? Solution: This is normal and is the way CompactRIO was designed. Note that C Series modules are isolated from the backplane so any sensors connected to the system are isolated from the power supply and chassis. If additional power supply isolation is desired you can connect a DC to DC power supply to the power supply of the CompactRIO controller to isolate it from the rest of the power network.
