'Device is not responding to the First DMA Channel' Error with VXI-MIO Board Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI
Problem: I receive the error 'Device is not responding to the First DMA Channel' when I try to Test Resources in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) for my VXI-MIO-64XE-10 or VXI-MIO-64E-1. What is going on? Solution: If you are using an embedded controller (like the VXIpc-850/870), open Test and Measurement Explorer, right-click on the entry for the embedded controller, and choose "Hardware Configuration". On the "General" tab click on the drop-down box labeled "Common configurations:" and choose "VXI-DAQ Configuration". Click "Yes" and reboot the controller. If you are using MXI-2 to communicate with your VXI system open MAX (or T&M Explorer if you are using a version of NI-VXI older than 3.0). Open the "Devices and Interfaces" item, right-click on the entry for the PCI-MXI-2 and choose "Hardware Configuration". On the "General" tab click on the drop-down box labeled "Common configurations:" and choose "VXI-DAQ Configuration". Click 'Yes' and reboot your computer. Note: With some of the newer versions of NI-VXI (3.x or later), the "VXI DAQ Configuration" option may not exist on the "Common Configurations" pulldown box. This option merely configured the controller to share memory with the data acquisition device. If this option does not exist, go to the "Shared Memory" tab in the "Hardware Configuration" and select to share memory in A24 or A32 space. Be sure also to specify "Shared RAM Amount" to share "All System Ram" or to be the amount supported by your controller. By following the procedure outlined above, the VXI-DAQ configuration properly maps local controller memory to the VXI bus so that DMA transfers can work properly. Related Links: Attachments:
