Can I Have the Same Cable for Multiple CAN Speeds? Problem: I have a software selectable NI-CAN card that allows me to have high speed, low speed/fault-tolerant, and single-wire CAN. Do I need a different cable to communicate with each mode? Solution: Since each different mode has different termination, you will need a different cable for each. See the related links below for proper termination. Note: If the cable is short, you can use the non-terminated cable for both. This should work up to 1 meter. However, there is still a risk using a cable with no termination with high speed CAN. This may work with short cables, but it could still fail depending on the environmental noise.
