PCI Card Fails After Driver Install or Upgrade

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DAQmx
Primary Software Version: 7.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)

Problem:
I have installed a National Instruments driver. Now that I have installed the driver my PCI card either does not behave properly, or is not recognized by Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). How can I resolve this problem?

Solution:
Whenever a driver is installed for a piece of NI hardware, sometimes the new driver is not properly associated with the PCI card.  There are two ways to reset this driver association.  If the first option does not work, you may need to try the second.

Reset the association in Windows:

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
  2. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button to open it.
  3. Find your PCI card. It will most likely be under a National Instruments selection.
  4. Right click on your card and select Uninstall.  This will remove the association between the card and the old driver.
  5. Right click again and select Update Driver.... When you update the driver select the newer version that you have installed.

Reinstall the driver and the card:

  1. Shut down your computer and remove any hardware that may use this driver.
  2. Turn on your computer and install the new driver. Make sure that if old versions of the driver need to be uninstalled that you do so.
  3. Turn off your computer and place the PCI cards back in their slots. Turn on your computer, and your cards should appear in MAX with proper driver associations.
