How to Reassign DAQmx Tasks to a Different DAQ Device

Problem:
I have purchased a new DAQ device to use with an existing data acquisition program. I would like to delete my old DAQ device in Measurement & Automation Explorer, but would like to keep the DAQmx tasks that were associated with my old DAQ device, and associate these tasks with my new DAQ device.  How can I reassign my DAQmx tasks to my new DAQ device?

Solution:
You can keep your DAQmx tasks, and reassign them to a different DAQ device. This can be done by reassigning the task to a different DAQ device in the Data Neighborhood or by deleting the DAQ device in the Devices and Interfaces.

To reassign the task to a different DAQ device from the Data Neighborhood, perform the following steps.
  1. Launch Measurement & Automation Explorer.
  2. Expand My System»Data Neighborhood»DAQmx Tasks»Your Task: "Task Name" from the Configuration tree.
  3. Click the Configuration tab.
  4. Click the Change Physical Channel button (shown below).
  5. In the Change Physical Channel popup window, select the desired DAQ device and physical channels, and click the OK button. Your task has now been assigned to a new DAQ device.

To reassign the task to a new DAQ device from the Devices and Interfaces category, perform the following steps.
  1. Launch Measurement & Automation Explorer.    
  2. Expand My System»Devices and Interfaces»NI-DAQmx Devices» Your Device: "Device Name" from the Configuration tree.
  3. Click the Delete button near the top of the screen.
  4. In the Delete Device pop-up window (shown below), select “Retarget tasks/global  the OK button. Your task is now assigned to a new DAQ device, and your old DAQ device has been deleted.
