I Have Received Notification that Package Names Have Changed in my Volume License File. How Will this Affect my License Server?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have recently received a new volume license file for my NI VLM or FLEXlm license server. Within the email that is sent with the volume license file, it identified that there may be changes to the package names in my volume license file. How can I be sure if there are changes? If there are changes, how will my volume license server be affected?

Solution:
If you are using NI Volume License Manager server:
  • To determine if your license file has been changed, compare the new license file found with the license file named "nivlm.lic" in the NI VLM installation directory (usually found at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Volume License Manager\nivlm.lic ). This can be easily done with a file comparison program, such as Compare It!. When comparing the file, look for changes to the package name. The package name is the string value that immediately follows a "PACKAGE" keyword.
  • If changes are found in the package name, you will receive migration dialog boxes during the installation of the new license file. Simply install the new license file and follow the instructions in the migration dialogs. Once the license file is installed, you will need to update any network installers that you have previously created for the affected NI software package. If you are using a FLEXlm license server:
  • For a FLEXlm server, compare the license file that is being currently used with the license server with the new license file. This can be easily done with a file comparison program, such as Compare It!. When comparing the file, look for changes to the package name. The package name is the string value that immediately follows a "PACKAGE" keyword.
  • If changes are found, you will need to change any INCLUDE statements in your options file to the match the new package names. This can be accomplished by doing a "find and replace" operation using any text editor. Simply search for the old PACKAGE name, and replace it with the PACKAGE name found in the new license file. Save and close the options file, and then reload the license server with your new license file.
