VXI Bus Version Numbers and Revisions

Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI

Problem: The VXI bus has several different version and revisions, which ones do NI's hardware comply with?

Solution: The VXI bus specifications cover many different parts of a VXI system. Each different section has a version number and a revision number. The following list shows the different VXI versions and to which NI's VXI equipment complies (as of 11/07/02):

  • VXI-0, Rev. 1.0: Overview of VXIbus Specifications
  • VXI-1, Rev. 2.0: System Specifications
  • VXI-2, Rev. 1.0: Extended Register Based Devices and Extended Memory Devices Specification
  • VXI-3, Rev. 1.0: Word Serial Commands for Version and Serial Number Identification Specification
  • VXI-4, Rev. 1.0: Common Mnemonics Specification
  • VXI-5, Rev. 1.0: Common ASCII System Commands Specification
  • VXI-6, Rev. 2.0: Mainframe Extender Specification
  • VXI-7, Rev. 1.0: Shared Memory Data Formats Specification
  • VXI-9, Rev. 1.0: Shared Memory Communication Protocol Specification
  • MXIbus, Rev. 1.2: Multisystem Extension Interface Bus Specification

These version and revision numbers are not something that NI produces, these are the specifications that are agreed upon by the VXIbus Consortium. Since the VXI bus specifications have went through numerous revisions, these numbers are accurate as of November, 2002. If you need any further clarification about which revisions National Instruments complies with, please contact National Instruments. For in-depth detail about each specification, please refer to the VXIbus Consortium.
