Lookout Installation Error 1921

Problem: I encounter the following error during installation: "Lookout 5: Error 1921 Service LkTimeService." This error forces me to quit the install process.

Solution: This error is caused by trying to install Lookout while the Lookout TimeService is running. This can occur when an installation is performed over a previous version of Lookout. A corrupted installation can also cause this error even if there are no previous versions of Lookout on the target system. The Logos TimeService must be stopped or removed to eliminate this error. Try the following steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Stop the TimeService server from the NI Service Manger. Try to proceed with the installation of Lookout. If the installation fails, go to step 2.
  2. Stop the TimeService manager from the Windows Task Manager. It is listed as lktsvr.exe in the Processes tab. If the installation still results in an error, go to step 3.
  3. Remove the TimeService entries from the Windows registry using the following steps***.
    a. Select Start >> Run and type regedit. Click the OK button. This will launch the Registry Editor.
    b. Navigate to the following location in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SYSTEM >> CurrentControlSet >> Services
    c. Remove the LkTimeSync folder and close the Registry Editor
    c. Try to continue the install process. If the installation fails contact National Instruments Technical Support


*** WARNING: Inappropriate changes to the Windows Registry can disable your operating system! To safeguard against such an event, you should backup your existing Registry by choosing Registry ยป Export Registry File after launching the Registry Editor and before making any changes.
