What Is a Link Master in Fieldbus and Do I Need One? Hardware: Industrial Communications>>Fieldbus
Problem: What is a Link Master in Fieldbus and do I need one? Solution: A Link Master is a Fieldbus device that is capable of controlling other devices. A Fieldbus network must have one Link Master that controls the bus. The Link Master controlling the bus is called the Link Active Scheduler (LAS). National Instruments interface cards are Link Master devices; thus, you could have a Fieldbus network with just an interface card and a basic device, such as a sensor. However, if the computer with the interface card is turned off, then the Fieldbus will NOT be able to run. If there is another Link Master device on the bus, then this secondary Link Master could become the LAS, if the computer is turned off. See KnowledgeBase 1AECJRUB for more information.
