Is the NI 9481 Relay Module Normally Open or Normally Closed? Hardware: CompactRIO>>Digital Output Modules>>NI 9481
Problem: I have the NI 9481 4-Channel Relay and in the specifications it says the relay type is single pole single throw (SPST), however it does not specify if the relays are normally open or normally closed. Solution: The NI 9481 uses relays that are normally open (NO). This means that contacts connect the circuit when the relay is activated; the circuit is disconnected when the relay is inactive. It is also called a Form A contact or "make" contact. The opposite of this would be a normally closed (NC) relay. In this case, contacts disconnect the circuit when the relay is activated; the circuit is connected when the relay is inactive. It is also called a Form B contact or "break" contact.
