Creating a Volume License Installer that Does Not Send Permission Requests

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:

A NI VLM Volume License Installer has five functions:

  1. Installs NI software.
  2. Configures the client to point to an NI VLM server.
  3. Provides administrator contact information to the client.
  4. Queries user for information and sends it to NI VLM.
  5. Sends license permission requests to the server.

How can I create a volume license installer that only performs functions 2-4?

Solution:

In NI VLM, select Options » Create Volume License Installer...

  1. The first screen provides a basic description of the Volume License Installer. Click Next.
  2. Select any Source Distribution.
  3. Set the Destination directory to a temporary location.
  4. Name the product (name is not important). Click Next.
  5. Keep the License Server and Administrator fields accurate. Click Next.
  6. Name a new configuration (name is not important).
  7. Enter a valid serial number for one of your products (the specific product is not important).
  8. Check Send user information to NI Volume License Manager
  9. Do not select any license permissions.
  10. Click Next and continue through the remaining dialogues.  Ignore the following dialogue:

Now, cut the Client folder from the resulting Volume License Installer and copy it to your client computer or to a shared network directory.  You can delete the remaining contents of the Volume License Installer.  Run the vlmclient.exe in the client folder to launch the Volume License Installer dialogue.  This Network Installer will perform tasks 2-4 defined in the Problem section above.
