How Can I Use MXI-3 Over a Long Distance? Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8330
Problem: I would like to use PXI with MXI-3 as a remote system over distances much greater than the 200 meter maximum distance specification. Can I simply use an Ethernet repeater? Has anyone used MXI-3 over distances greater than 200 meters? Solution: Most repeaters work by resending the packets instead of the exact electrical signals. Since MXI-3 uses a proprietary packet optimized for PCI cycles, a standard Ethernet repeater would not work. The best solution is to add a second MXI-3 link and extend your maximum distance to 400 meters. To do this you will need a second PXI-MXI-3 kit (which consists of two PXI-8335 devices), another cable, and another chassis. The PXI-1002 is the lowest cost option for a chassis. You can add as many of these chassis and MXI-3 kits as you need to attain the desired distance. Related Links: MXI-3 Product Page National Instruments Product Catalog Attachments:
