How do I Configure VirtualBench-DMM to Read Thermocouples on a DAQPAD-MIO-16XE-50 with a DAQPAD-TB-52 Connector?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>VirtualBench
Primary Software Version: 2.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: I am having trouble reading my thermocouple measurements with my DAQPAD-MIO-16XE-50 that has a DAQPAD-TB-52 connector adapter. I cannot seem to get the settings correct in VirtualBench-DMM.

Solution: The following steps will allow you to read a thermocouple with a DAQPAD-MIO-16XE-50 in VirtualBench. They can be applied to other applications as well.
  1. Make sure the DAQPAD-MIO-16XE-50 is configured properly and passing test resources, in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)

  2. Ensure the DAQPAD-TB-52 is configured as the accessory for the DAQPAD-MIO-16XE-50.

  3. Ensure the Iex switch (SW1) on the DAQPAD-TB-52 is in the off position and connect the thermocouple.

  4. Make a virtual channel in MAX and see if you can get an accurate reading from the thermocouple. Once you have got a good reading from the thermocouple, then move to using VirtualBench-DMM.

  5. In the VirtualBench-DMM Temperature Settings set the following:
    • Temperature Sensor: Thermocouple type you are using
    • Temperature Units: Range of your choice
    • TC Cold Junction Source: Thermistor (Cref)
    • Cold Junction Channel: cjtemp
    • Cold Junction Temperature (Degrees): N/A

  6. Ensure that in the General Settings of VirtualBench-DMM, you are reading from the correct channel.

There have also been issues addressed with this particular configuration in VirtualBench 2.51. You may want to consider an upgrade. See the link below to get information on the upgrade.
