Improved Display Driver for TPC-2006 Industrial Touch Panel Computer

Problem: How can I improve the quality of the display on the TPC-2006 to properly show 3D controls and indicators on the front panel of a Touch Panel VI?

Solution:
An improved version of the video display driver for the TPC-2006 was introduced in December 2006. This updated display driver improves the color depth of the display to 12 bpp (bits per pixel), which allows for much better rendering of 3D controls and indicators on a PDA or Touch Panel user interface. You must re-image the TPC-2006 with the attached .NB0 image file to update the video display drivers.

Complete the following steps to re-image the TPC-2006.

Note: You must have the following to re-image the TPC-2006:
  • A blank Compact Flash (CF) card (minimum 256 MB total space)
  • A CF card reader on the host PC
  • TPC-2006.
  1. Download the following files (attached below): brand.txt, bootlogo.bmp, logo60s.bmp, ebootupd.nb0, XIP.NB0.
  2. Transfer all of the image files to a blank Compact Flash card using a CF card reader.
  3. With the TPC-2006 powered off, place the Compact Flash card that contains the image into the CF slot of the TPC-2006.
  4. Power on the TPC-2006. The re-imaging process begins after the initial boot screen and takes about 1-2 minutes. This updates the bootloader and the image.
  5. Perform the re-imaging process again by powering off the TPC-2006 and then turning it back on again.  This second re-imaging puts the correct branding string on the unit.
  6. When the re-imaging process is complete, the TPC-2006 displays the message “Please Remove CF Card and Reboot.” Power off the TPC-2006, remove the Compact Flash card, and power on the TPC-2006.
  7. Verify the version by selecting Start»Programs»Utilities»TPC Version Information.


The TPC-2006 is now updated with the new display drivers. This image also contains the shared variable engine, so you do not have to install the engine on the Touch Panel device.

Note: If you have previously installed the shared variables and PNG support on the Touch Panel device, National Instruments recommends you manually delete the following CAB files from the \harddisk\wince\config directory to disable the installation dialog boxes at startup.
