When Should I Use System Identification?Primary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>System Identification ToolkitPrimary Software Version: 4.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: 4.0 Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: What is System Identification and what is the benefit of using System Identification Toolkit? Solution: By convention, one would build white-box models based on first principles using Newton equations; however, real systems are often times complex and fairly nonlinear which makes it difficult to obtain an accurate model. A common approach to alleviate this problem is to determine the mathematical relation between the system behavior (output) and the external reference (input); which is system identification. As shown in the figure below, the plant parameters are estimated using principle component analysis (a mathematical operation that transforms correlated variables into uncorrelated variables) based on the response signal with disturbance (noise) and reference signal. This particular figure represents the schematics of a closed-loop system which can be applied directly to an open-loop identification method. Figure.
