Problem: Why can't I configure the AB_SLC500 object to communicate with an Allen Bradley SLC 500 series PLC through Ethernet in Lookout? Solution: Lookout versions prior to 6.0 do not support TCP/IP communication with the SLC 5/05 series PLCs. Lookout versions 6.0 and on have built-in TCP/IP Ethernet support for the SLC 5/05 PLCs. In previous versions of Lookout the AB_SLC500 driver object does not support Ethernet communication. The object help lists the protocols supported by this object driver, and Ethernet is not one of the available options. Since the AB_SLC500 object uses the same configuration window as the AB_PL5 object, it is possible to select Ethernet in the interface field and PLC500 for the PLC model. Even though several developer's exchange posts detail accounts of successfully establishing communication in this way, the method is not supported by National Instruments and is something to try at your own risk.
