How Do I Deploy My Switch Executive Configuration to Target Systems?
Primary Software: Switch Executive
Primary Software Version: 1.0.2
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: I have an application that uses Switch Executive. I have several systems already in the field, and I have just made some upgrades to both my Switch Executive Virtual Device and my IVI Configuration. How can I deploy my Switch Executive configuration to my target machines?
Solution: There are two different configuration files that need to be exported from the development computer to all target computers: the IVI configuration and the NI Switch Executive (NISE) configuration.
- Exporting IVI Configuration
The Switch Executive Help » System Deployment » Preparing a Target Computer chapter (see link below) says that to quickly export the IVI configuration, users can copy the IVI configuration file from your deployment computer to the target computer.
- If you have IVI Engine 2.0 or higher, the IVI Configuration (including IVI Driver Sessions and IVI Logical Names) will be saved in the IVIConfigurationStore.xml file. Usually this file is located in the folder "\Program Files\IVI\Data".
- If you have previous versions of the IVI Engine, then the IVI configuration will be saved in the IVI.ini file, which should be located in "\VXIPNP\WINNT[WIN95]\niivi".
- Exporting NISE Configuration
The chapter Switch Executive Help » System Deployment » Exporting Configurations describes how to export a Switch Executive configuration to an XML file, and the chapter Switch Executive Help » System Deployment » Importing Configurations describes how to import a Switch Executive configuration in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Once the NISE configuration file is copied to a target machine, you will need to create a new Virtual Device and point to the configuration file.

At this time, it is not possible to programmatically export either configuration from a development computer to a target computer.
