NI VLM Volume License Installer Causes Error -12 When Building Distribution in Application Builder

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>Application Builder, LabWindows/CVI Development Systems>>Base Package, TestStand

Problem:
I installed an Application Development Environment (ADE), such as LabVIEW, LabWindows\CVI, or TestStand, from a Volume License Manager (VLM) Volume License Installer.  Now, I'm building a distribution of an application I wrote in this ADE, and I am including an Additional Installer of an NI component.  I receive Error code -12: The system cannot find the path specified.

Solution:
Locate the original installer, as opposed to the NI VLM volume license installer, of the product mentioned just before the error message (Notice the build fails when copying LabVIEW 8.5.1 in the above screenshot).  In the application builder of your ADE, change the Installer Source Location for each additional installer from the volume license installer location to its original installer location.

Then:

  1. Save your installer configuration.
  2. Close the ADE.
  3. Relaunch the ADE, open your installer configuration, and rebuild.
  4. If the build fails on a different distribution (i.e. not LabVIEW 8.5.1 for this example), repeat this solution for the new distribution.

Note: In order to prevent this from occurring on computers that do not already have NI Software installed from a Volume License Installer, do not directly use a Network Installer (the former name for a Volume License Installer) created from NI VLM 2.1.
