How Do I Add FieldPoint I/O Modules to an Existing Project?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-FieldPoint
Primary Software Version: 3.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Compact FieldPoint

Problem:
I have been developing a project in LabVIEW using FieldPoint, and I would like to add additional I/O modules to my hardware set up.  How do I get these modules to appear in the Project Explorer window?

Solution:
Once a FieldPoint target has been added to a project, it will no longer auto-update when changes are made to the FieldPoint hardware configuration.  In order to add I/O Modules to the target, they must be manually added from the Project Explorer window.

In order to do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the FieldPoint target in the Project Explorer window, and select New » Targets and devices.

  2. If the FieldPoint I/O modules have already been plugged into the backplane, they can be automatically detected.  In the pop up window, select Existing target or device, then expand the IO Module folder listed below.  This will detect the modules currently plugged into the backplane.  Select the module that is to be added, and press OK to add it to the project.

If the new module is not plugged in, or if this will be a prototype of the final system, modules can also be manually added, even though they are not physically present in the backplane.  In order to do so, select New target or device, and select the module in the list below.  Click OK to add the module to the project.

  3. The FieldPoint I/O modules should now be available in the Project Explorer window.
