Problem: Why do I get Error -32812 when using serial to read or write to a cFP-180x from a cFP-2xxx? Solution: Error -32812 can indicate many different problems in a FieldPoint VI. If you are trying to communicate using serial, then this error can result if you do not have the right software installed. You must have NI-Serial RT installed on the controller to communicate with a cFP-180x using serial. If you installed the FieldPoint 6.0 (minimal) software set, NI-Serial RT is not included. You can check to see if you have it installed by opening Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and expanding the software tree for the controller.  If you do not have NI-Serial RT installed, then you can install the full FieldPoint 6.0 software set or install NI-Serial RT on its own. To install NI-Serial, right-click Software and select Add/Remove Software. Then select Custom software installation and click Next.
 Click the "X" next to NI-Serial RT and select to Install the feature. Once the FieldPoint controller reboots, you should be able to run your VI without Error -32812.
