Problem: I am using Multisim and I have been trying to link a ground symbol to a custom ground net but I do not seem to be able to do so.
Solution: The Ground (GND) symbol cannot be assigned to another net as the ground net 0 is considered to be universal for SPICE purposes. However, if there is a need for multiple ground nets, a DGND symbol can be used to do so.
- Select Place » Component... from the menu bar.
- In the Select a Component... dialog box, select the Master Database, then the Sources group and finally the POWER_SOURCES family.
- Select the DGND component and click OK.
- After the DGND is placed, double click the symbol to open the Digital Ground dialog box.
- Rename the RefDes to a desired Net name.

In order to connect the DGND symbol to other custom ground net, simply rename the RefDes with the required net name.
To see which net a ground is linked to, click on the Pins tab on the Digital Ground dialog box. In the following case, the custom ground net is called AIGND.

NOTE: You can also create schematic capture -only components with custom symbols. Refer to the Related Links section below.
