How can Custom Footprints Created in Ultiboard be Made Visible in Multisim?Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>MultisimPrimary Software Version: 9.x Primary Software Fixed Version: 9.x Secondary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Ultiboard
Problem: I created a new footprint in my Ultiboard layout and I added it to the Ultiboard User/Corporate Database. I am able to use it from Ultiboard, but when I switch to Multisim and I try to use that footprint on one of the components I do not see it on any of the Databases. Solution: Footprints created on Ultiboard and added to the Ultiboard Database are not directly added to the Multisim Database. It needs to be added manually. There are different ways to accomplish this, and we will review probably the easiest and fastest one. For this instruction set, we are assuming that the footprint is already added to the Ultiboard Database on the User or Corporate option and that you are able to select it and place it in your PCB layout. 1. Open Multisim. 2. Select a Virtual Component similar to the component for which the footprint is meant to be used for. 3. Place the component in your schematic page. 4. Double-click over the component in order to reach the Component Properties Dialog. 5. On the 'Value' tab, click on the 'Edit Footprint' button. 6. On the new dialog, click on the 'Select From Database' option. 7. On the new dialog ('Select Footprint'), select the 'User Database' from the database field. [ this is where most likely you were not able to find the footprint before ] 8. Click on the 'Add' button. 9. Select 'User Database', fill the manufacturer field, then at the footprint field write the exact same name as your footprint is named on your Ultiboard database, leave the EWB layout field blank. Finish the rest of the fields based on the component specific needs. 10. Click OK when finished. The footprint is added to the database now. You can cancel the rest of the procedure if you wish to, the main purpose which was to add the footprint is now accomplished. Now you can select this footprint from your Spreadsheet View, Footprint selection options, or even if you are creating a new component from scratch (refer to the link at the bottom for a good tutorial about this).
