Network cDAQ Disconnects or Loses Connection While Acquiring Data

Hardware: CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9188, CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9188XT, CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9184, CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9188, CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9191, CompactDAQ>>Backplanes>>cDAQ-9181

Problem:
I am able to successfully acquire data from my network cDAQ module. However when I leave it running for a while I lose or disconnect from my network connection, my chassis or modules disappear from MAX, or I experience other intermittent connectivity issues. There are no problems within my code and my computer is switched on. How can I resolve this?

Solution:
Complete the following troubleshooting steps to determine why your network cDAQ chassis is losing connection during data acquisition:
  1. Ensure another device on the network is not using the same IP address as your device. This can cause your device to be removed from the network and lose communication.

  2.  Confirm that there are no problems with your chassis such as flashing LED's. If so, refer to your device's manual to determine the meaning of the flashing LED’s.

  3. Losing connection with your chassis can also happen as a result of your Windows settings. When leaving the code to run without any other interactions with the PC, Windows will try to save power by slowing down/disabling the network adapters. You can disable this feature by navigating to Device Manager» Network adapters. Expand this section to reveal your network devices, right click on the correct card and choose Properties from the drop down menu. In the Power Management tab you will need to uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. You can change some of your network power settings through the control panel too.

The above troubleshooting steps apply to the following Network cDAQ chassis:

  • cDAQ-9181
  • cDAQ-9184
  • cDAQ-9188
  • cDAQ-9188XT
  • cDAQ-9191
