Archived: Which Files Should I Backup to Retain my Configuration within NI Volume License Manager 2.1.1?

This document has been archived and is no longer updated by National Instruments

Primary Software: NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I am using NI Volume License Manager 2.1.1 or earlier, and I would like to save the current configuration. Which files should I backup?

Solution:
If you wish to save your configurations and options that you have set within NI Volume License Manager 2.1.1 or earlier, you should copy nivlm.cfg, which contains the client computers and their permissions, and all files with the .log extension found in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Volume License Manager directory. You must also save your license file, nivlm.lic, found in the same directory.

If you ever wish to revert to the backup NI VLM configuration:
  1. Shut down the NI VLM user interface.
  2. Copy/Paste nivlm.lic, nivlm.cfg, and any *.log file into the NI VLM installation directory.  You will be prompted to override these files.  Choose Yes.
  3. Restart  the NI VLM user interface, and click "Apply Changes" or "Start License Server".
For more information about backing up and restoring configuration data in NI Volume License Manager 3.0 and later, please refer to the NI Volume License Manager Help documentation.
